A centrifugal pump is the standard pump for transferring clean or contaminated water in applications such as dewatering, drainage, irrigation, fire-fighting supply, sewage bypass and process circulation. It delivers continuous, stable flow by converting rotational impeller energy into pressure, making it the standard pump type for water-based transfer at volume.
Centrifugal pump rental
Centrifugal pump rental is the default starting point for water transfer, dewatering and process circulation. Where the fluid is clean to moderately contaminated and reliable flow rate is the priority, the centrifugal pump is the standard choice. Rental Pumps operates centrifugal pump rentals from compact 2-inch dewatering units to large-capacity configurations handling over 10,000 m³/h, available in diesel and electric drive, with delivery within 24 hours.

How does a centrifugal pump work?
A centrifugal pump converts rotational energy into fluid velocity. An impeller spins at high speed, drawing liquid in at its centre and accelerating it outward. This velocity converts to pressure at the pump outlet, producing continuous, stable flow without valves or reciprocating parts.
Rental Pumps centrifugal pumps are predominantly dry self-priming: a vacuum mechanism evacuates air from the suction line before starting, allowing the pump to draw fluid without manual priming. This makes them deployable across variable site conditions without preparation time.
Centrifugal pumps deliver consistent performance on clean to moderately contaminated water. For low capacity, highly viscous media or easy handling, positive displacement configurations within the full pump rental fleet are the correct starting point.
A centrifugal pump uses a rotating impeller to accelerate fluid and convert velocity to pressure, delivering continuous flow suited to clean water at variable flow rates. A positive displacement pump moves a fixed volume per cycle regardless of pressure, making it the correct choice for viscous fluids, chemically aggressive media and ATEX environments where no electrical supply is available.
Centrifugal pump rental: our different configurations
The fleet covers centrifugal pump rentals across a full range of sizes and drive options, from standard dewatering to high-pressure process applications.
Standard and wastewater centrifugal configurations handle construction dewatering, drainage and wastewater transfer from 2 to 16 inches (approximately). Diesel and electric drives are both available. Flow rates scale to 1,750 m³/h for the high-flow range.
For high pressure centrifugal pump rentals, multi-stage configurations are available for fire-fighting supply lines, industrial jetting and process applications that require elevated pressure alongside controlled flow. Specifications and model availability are confirmed through our high-pressure pump rental fleet.
Every centrifugal pump leaves our locations cleaned, pressure-tested and ready to run, with full documentation.
Not all centrifugal pumps are self-priming. Standard flooded-suction units require the suction line to be pre-filled before starting. Rental Pumps centrifugal pumps are predominantly dry self-priming: a vacuum mechanism evacuates air from the suction line automatically, allowing deployment across variable site conditions without manual priming.
High pressure centrifugal pump rentals are suited to applications that require elevated pressure alongside controlled flow, including fire-fighting supply lines, industrial jetting and process applications where single-stage centrifugal pumps cannot reach the required operating pressure. Multi-stage configurations achieve higher pressures by passing the fluid through several impeller stages in sequence.
Centrifugal water pump rental applications
Centrifugal water pump rental covers the standard range of clean to contaminated water transfer requirements:
Construction dewatering and groundwater management;
Drainage and flood response;
Irrigation and water supply;
Fire-fighting line supply;
Industrial process circulation;
Bypass pumping during pipeline maintenance.
For wastewater with higher solids content, our wastewater pump rental and sludge pump rental handle those conditions within the same fleet. For sustained high-volume transfer from 150 m³/h and above, the high flow pump rental fleet is the starting point.
When do you rent a centrifugal pump?
Centrifugal pump selection is correct when:
the fluid is a non-viscous media;
flow rate is the primary performance requirement;
the fluid does not contain air or other gases;
The primary limitation of centrifugal pumps is fluid compatibility. Highly viscous fluids reduce centrifugal efficiency significantly or make it impossible to function. A compressed-air-driven pump removes this constraint.
For process or industrial applications requiring full selection support, our industrial pump rental team specifies the configuration from your fluid data and site conditions.
Why rent your centrifugal pump from Rental Pumps?
At Rental Pumps, you speak directly to an experienced specialist from your very first call. No automated menus, no delays. We confirm pump type, size and drive option based on your actual application, not catalogue defaults.
Our advice is brand independent. We select from the full fleet based on what your site demands. For centrifugal pump rentals, that means for example: pump size, suction conditions and required flow rate to the right configuration, with delivery from Dordrecht or Dendermonde within 24 hours.
We are VCA* certified, with our own technicians available for on-site commissioning and rapid repairs throughout the rental period.
